Lamest movie in existanceOkay, well if you couldn`t tell by the title of this review, The Aviator sucked hard core. Its the true story of Howard Hughes, the movie director turned aviator, who had a nasty habit of not bathing nor grooming himself for weeks on end. Yet, this man managed to to claim fame and fortune by turning out some crucial turning points in the construction and operation of airplanes. I can`t really tell you what they were, because after about the first half hour of the movie, my brain started to bleed. But you might find yourself saying, "But Master Romero, surely the movie wasn`t all that bad...I mean what was so bad about it anyway?" Well, not to sound lazy, but I go to the movies and I rent them for entertainment, not to be told a story that I care nothing about. In addition, I feel the film was also poorly made. The camera angles were bad, there was no symbolism nor interpretive imagery. "Well thats because there little to interpret in a true story, Master Romero.", you might say. Very true, but if you expect to dazzle or keep the attention of your audience, especially with a true story, you have to give them something that gives their brain the task of thinking, even if its on a subconscious level. Take for instance the movie...lets say Freddy vs. Jason, for those of you who don`t know what that is, it is a horror movie featuring the antagonists from Nightmare on Elm St. and Friday the 13th going at it in battle. At first glance it seems just like the regular slasher flick requiring no thought. However, Freddy vs. Jason in fact does a better job because it includes the previously mentioned elements of making a movie. The camera angles were great, as was the subtle, yet fantastic imagery leaving so much to the imagination while staying true to both original series. The film is filled with dialogue that only it`s intended audience, fans of both series, will appreciate, therefore accomplishing the goals of any feature film. Anyway, the Aviator does nothing but "tell" the story instead of showing us any actual meaning. People always try to redeem it by saying, "But how can you say it sucked? Its based on a true story." Well, I`m also sorry to say that just because a story is true, does not in any way make it interesting. Hopefully now you know why fisherman always exaggerate when they tell of that huge catch that they made. If they came home to their buddies and simply said, "Well I cast the worm, it bit the hook, I reeled it in." , their friends would most likely lose interest. But if he were to relate to his audience such as by telling them how great it feels to wake up early in the morning with fishing gear and waiting without any interruption for that one perfect catch of the day. His audience would understand and get the point. Even if people who never fish and hate fishing might not agree with the feeling of having to go through what the fisherman went through. They would understand what he likes and they would appreciate what he goes through, thus making the fisherman`s story a fairly good afternoon conversation. But as for the Aviator, I have to recommend that all audience, man, woman, and child alike, stay away from this cinematic abomination.
