Ernie Souchak is a well-knownChicago Sun-Times columnist who`s known for his blistering political exposes. Souchak`s controversial reporting, receivescongratulations from fans and his managing editor Howard McDermott; however, Souchak also gets worked over by thugs and ends up in the hospital.McDermott decides it`s time forSouchak to takes some time off. Howard suggests he head for the Rockiesto interview a reclusive, famouslady ornithologist Nell Porter,who studies the endangered American bald eagle. Amid themajestic Rocky Mountainswe see Souchak- chain-smoking andcarrying an enormous backpack- and his weatherbeaten guide, Deke Lewis. Deke mentions to Souchak that he hopes he isn`t areporter because Nell hatesthem. This is the beginning of the delightful adventures between Souchak and Nell at thetop of the world on the Continental Divide. When they met theyheard bells...and that was justround one.
