Lottie and Rose and two proper, middle-class Englishwomen resigned to their staid lives and passionless marriages. One day, Lottie sees anadvertisement for the vacation of a lifetime: a month`s stay at a medieval villa overlooking the Italian Riviera. Leavingtheir inattentive husbandsbehind, Lottie and Rose rent the villa, sharing expenses with two unlikely companions: an austere dowager and a gorgeous, bored socialite. At first theladies are wary of each other and unsureof their roles at the villa. But the idyllic hidawayholds special magic, as friendships florish and hopes reawaken,the visitors find ways to live and love that have long eludedeluded them.
