Movie Description:
A group of inner-city high school students from New York is visiting the campus of Harvard University. One of thestudents is homeless Liz Murray and, forher, the visit is a defining moment: Lizdecides to take a shot at gaining admission there. "You think they let people like us into Harvard?" a friendlater taunts. Emmy nominee Thora Birch portrays teenage Liz, homeless but not hopeless as she takes control of her life andovercomes the dead-end start ofparents who are loving but poor, addicted to drugs and in deteriorating health. Sleeping in subways, getting food whereshe can and finding a job to help pay her way, Liz overcomes her late start inhigh school by finishing a four-year class load in two. Yes, they let peoplelike that into Harvard. Liz`s example shows all that obstacles are not here toimpede us but to be overcome.
