Part I: At a grand ball thrown by Major Amberson for the cream of Indianapolissociety, the arrival of Eugene Morgan causes a minor stir. A former suitor forthe hand of theMajor`s daughter, Isabel,Morgan is back in town after anabsence of many years, and his presence sparks gossip and speculation among the guests. It alsoattracts the notice of Isabel`s snobbish son, George, who isthoroughly taken by Eugene`s beautiful daughter, Lucy. Part II: Afterthe death of her husband, Isabeland Eugene begin to rekindle their once-upon-a-time romance. Jealous, George schemes to keepthe couple apart, but his plans cost him Lucy`s affections.This loss is nothing compared to what follows, however, as changing fortunes leave George motherless and forced to abandonhis home when the family fortunecrumbles.
