BRUNDLEFLY! Awesome flick by David Cronenberg featuring the fantastically creepy Jeff Goldblum. Goldblum plays Seth Brundle, a scientist trying to perfect teleportation. Convinced he will change the world, he obsesses over his project. He meets a reporter, Geena Davis, and she begins documenting his process and a romance ensues. After successfully teleporting a baboon, he decides it time for him to get in the telepod...the birth of BRUNDLEFLY!! Half-man, half-fly. Great special effects by Chris Walas.
What`s a Philistine? "It`s a real dirty person", to quote Sally Jenko. Dead Man is a great film by Jim Jarmusch filmed in glorious black and white. It follows William Blake (Depp), who is on the run after having killed a man. His only chance of survival is now the gun, which he has only shot the one time. Befriended by a Native American who mistakes him for the poet William Blake, the two travel to get his spirit to it`s resting place. Great story, awesome photography and fine poetry. Definitely worth a watch. Score by Neil Young
TOSHIRO! One of the greatest films of all time. Akira Kurosawa`s 12th film as a director masterfully captures the human quest for truth. The story is based on "In a Grove", a short story within a collection of shorts entitled Rashomon. It is centered around a crime in a grove and told from four different points of view. With each different version, new details arise and the audience gets closer to, or moves away from the truth. Masterfully shot, fantastic, over-the-top Japanese drama, and the always superfly Toshiro Mifune, who appeared in 16 of Kurosawa`s films, holding it down as the bandit. Highly recommended if you have eyes.
